Every experience that people undergo is composed of a certain set of elements or sensations that make it unique. These elements are endless in nature and strength. My art is concerned with dissecting an experience, or scene, and portraying in a heightened manner those elements that are the essence of its power and character. These essential visual elements are the root of man’s perception and emotion. Only by peering upon the unveiled heart of an experience can people understand what they are seeing and feeling. To achieve this unveiling I avoid the sterility of realism. In fact, strict realism in art detracts from one’s ability to understand the psychological underpinnings of emotion and life.

By concentrating on only the important elements of perception I am able to create and deliver artistically the true nature, message or emotion of a scene in a very direct and cerebral manner. Along with discerning the essential elements of a scene it is crucial to portray them in a manner that is faithful to their nature. The mechanics of my art is chosen to aid in the conveyance of an event’s individual message. Texture, balance (or imbalance), color, the use of light and movement are chosen to facilitate maximum impact and ease of understanding. The process of a work of art is as important as the product. I feel it is critical to proceed in this manner to ensure that people are guided in viewing and understanding life events for what they are and not what they appear to be on the surface. The Scientist and Philosopher can theorize and speak about the principles described above, but it falls to the Artist to show people how to see and feel them.
